We are named Best Burial Ground

Kent Natural Burials based in Iwade, Kent fought off stiff competition from around the country to win the coveted ‘Best Burial Ground of the Year’.

The Company founded in 2007, has two beautiful Burial Grounds, Deerton and Riverview both based along the Medway River Basin. Sian Muir, Manager for the company was delighted to pick up the award at the event held on 19th October 2019 at the Port Lympne Hotel, Hythe, Kent.

The AGFD Good Funeral Awards are run by the Association of Green Funeral Directors and is a non-profit making organisation aiming to bring natural eco-friendly funerals into the mainstream. The awards are held in recognition of the unsung heroes that go above and beyond to help the bereaved. The essence of a green funeral is simplicity. It rejects the idea of the traditional style funeral in favour of something with a more natural feel. The Association and its sponsors, Greens Carriage Masters, Aston Lark, Tim Holloway Funeral Support, Ecoffins, Greenfield Coffins, and Wesley Media support 15 categories including a ‘Lifetime Achievement’.

Sian Muir, Manager for KNB said “We are delighted and overwhelmed to be named as ‘Best Burial Ground of the Year’, the whole team has worked hard over the years to ensure that the site at Deerton, is a beautiful, comforting and peaceful place for loved ones and family members to visit. Our new site, Riverview, will be undergoing the same natural landscaping and will evolve year on year into a lovely, natural resting place for many people who embrace the idea of a natural burial’.

Currently the burial ground at Deerton, is planted with maturing Rowan, Wild Cherry, Crab Apple, Whitebeam, Field Maple, Hazel and Silver Birch trees along with Holly, Gelder and dog rose bushes, wild grasses and flowers. There is a bower of willow growing that will be shaped into a sheltered area. There are strategically placed wooden benches throughout the grounds where visitors can sit and contemplate whilst listening to the birds.

Rebecca O’Neill, Director said, “We are very proud of what we have achieved over the past twelve years. Sian always treats everyone with genuine kindness and compassion, helping them achieve their loved ones final wishes. We work closely to ensure that all our burials and interments with loved ones are how the families have envisioned them. Each funeral is unique and special. We take great care in looking after our burial grounds to a high eco standard to deliver a beautiful natural resting place. This award will help promote the idea of green, natural burials to those who have no idea that there is an alternative to a traditional funeral”.
